My Opinion:  While I don’t believe the Hurricanes should be adding a defenseman, Ron Hainsey would be my choice over Ryan Whitney. Whitney had difficulty breaking into the Oilers’ lineup at times, but Hainey was always a mainstay with the Jets.

Jaromir Jagr would be a good addition, but that does not seem likely at this point as GM Jim Rutherford has said adding a cheap defenseman is his first priority.

Brenden Morrow and Dustin Penner could be possible choices, with Penner being my preference because he is younger and Morrow has slowed down over the past few years.

I’ve never really thought about Lennart Petrell before as a possibility, he’s a smaller named player that flew under the radar in Edmonton. But after Mark’s anaylsis of him, Petrell could be a good fit in Carolina. He plays well defensively and excels in the penalty kill.
