Now for some last-minute rumors and speculation regarding the Hurricanes:

I think this was to be expected. Rutherford has said previously that he wants an impact player in this draft and because of how deep it is, that may be possible with a later pick. There’s been plenty of trade rumors lately, so don’t be surprised that teams are calling about the fifth pick.

My Opinion: Coburn’s not a top-pairing defenseman, but he belongs in the top four. If the Canes can get the Flyers 11th and Coburn for the fifth, it’s possible they think about it. Coburn would go a long ways towards fixing the defense and at 11, someone valuable may still be there.

Don’t be too excited about the possibility of Lecavalier. He will most likely more than the Hurricanes can offer and with a reported 15 teams interested in him, the Canes will have a tough time sticking out to the former Lightning.
