My Opinion: Either Valeri Nichushkin or Aleksander Barkov would be good choices for the Hurricanes. However, I do not believe that the Canes will be taking a defenseman with their first-rounder. Darnell Nurse is the only defenseman, besides expected No. 1 pick Seth Jones that could play in the NHL next season, and Nurse is a longshot at making a roster. The Hurricanes want an NHL-ready player and there likely isn’t one on defense.
