Preview: Checkers Look to Take the Heat

Tonight the Charlotte Checkers host the Abbotsford Heat in hopes of bouncing right back into the win column.  Andreas Nodl scored the lone goal for the Checkers in Wednesday night’s game against the Norfolk Admirals, as the Checkers fell 3-1, despite Peters making 31 saves.

As they face the Heat tonight, they look to regain their special teams advantage after going 0-7 in Wednesday’s meeting, a statistic that beats the teams’ worst from November of 2011.  They’re hoping to turn things around at home with their final two meetings before the All Star break. They have managed to win 7 or their last 9 games, meanwhile their opponent is riding a four-game win streak.

This is the first meeting of the season for these two teams, with the Heat holding the upper hand over the Checkers from last season as they took both games of the series.  The Heat come as a packaged deal with their goaltenders, as both sit #1 and #1 in the League with their goals against averages, something that may prove to be a hurdle for a struggling offense as their key players get called upon by Carolina.

Tonight’s game is scheduled to start at 7PM and can be seen or heard on AHL Live.
