Hurricanes Ready to Rock the Panthers in Season Opening

The Carolina Hurricanes are ready to show what they are really made of tonight as they head to the Florida to take on the Panthers in their season opener.  For Alex Semin and Jordan Staal this is the time to prove themselves to their fans and show what they are all about.

Last season the Panthers and Hurricanes met up for a total of six games last season, the Panthers taking all but one of the games.  With the added depth up front and the stability of their defensive end, the Canes are prepared to make a statement.  There is no question that the Canes are detined for great things this season with their new additions, Skinner being 100% healthy, Justin Faulk posting some decent numbers in Charlotte and bringing in some veteran players like Joe Corvo for your defensive core to tighten things up.

Know Thy Enemy: Florida Panthers

Carolina isn’t the only team who is looking to come out of the gate fully charged and ready to go as Florida’s top line consisting of Versteeg, Fleischmann and Weiss combined for 70 of the teams 197 goals last season.  To add more depth to their offense, they also signed Patrick Mueller and Alex Kovalev to one-year contracts.

Scratches:

Tuomo Ruutu will be side-lined through the majority of the season as he recovers from hip surgery. Sean Bergenheim (groin), Marcel Goc (groin) and Erik Gudbranson (shoulder) are suspended and will not play in tonight’s game.  Their suspensions will be lifted once the injuries sustained during the lockout have healed.

The skates are sharpened, the helmets have been placed and the jerseys are ready, let’s get ready for some Hurricanes hockey. Are you ready Caniacs!?
