Yesterday the National Hockey League announced once again the cancellation of more games. Games have now been cancelled through January 14, 2013. An additional 99 games from the last 526, that’s a total of 625 games that we have missed out on this season on top of a Winter Classic and All-Star Competition. While Bill Daly has reportedly stated in a conference with XM Radio that there will be a season, the hope is dimmer than ever as there have been no new negotiations for the CBA and the NHLPA is filing a disclaimer of interest. Over 50% of the season is lost due to the expired Collective Bargaining Agreement.
While I would like to encourage you fellow Caniacs to keep the faith for a season, the possibility is dwindling away with the more time that passes. After more than 95 days without hockey and more games being cancelled every other week, even with a shortened season crowning a Stanley Cup Champion will feel, awkward and wrong. For now, as always, we will have to wait and see and we promise to keep you posted as we get more information.
