This afternoon the Charlotte Checkers are looking to remain out of the losing column and remain victorious after snapping a five-game losing streak Friday night against the Lake Erie Monsters, defeating them 5-1. The last time the Checkers faced the Admirals was during a nine-game road trip where they met twice, each team taking a win. The most recent being 5-4 loss in a back and forth battle.
In Friday night’s victory there were five different payers on the score sheet. Drayson Bowman was able to record a Gordie Howe hat trick, consisting of a goal, fight and assist all in one game. Anyone who watches the Checkers knows that Bowman isn’t much of a fighter, and when he was asked about it he replied:
“We needed a win in the worst way, and when that happens you start to get into it a little bit,” said Bowman. “They weren’t going to back down either.”(via Checkers Official Site)
The Admirals are currently on a three-game road trip, are finishing off here in Charlotte with today’s matinee and a game on Tuesday. Today they are hoping to return back to the win column after losing to the IceHogs 5-3 on Friday night. They had recorded points in their previous five games prior to that loss.
- Who’s Hot:
Forwards Zach Boychuk and Drayson Bowman have been exchanging the lead for most goals scored all season long. Currently the two are tied at 13 goals a piece with Bowman recording an eight-game scoring streak earlier this season. Captain Brett Sutter has also managed to score twice in his last three games and is tied for third in goals scored on the team.
For the Admirals rookie Austin Watson leads the way with 15 points in 21 games. He scored his first professional goal against the Checkers in their last meeting and has since scored seven more times in his last 14 games. Ryan Ellis is also expected to play his first game against the Checkers this season, having missed the first two due to an injury.
