The PNC Arena was filled with smiles and cheers today as the Carolina Hurricanes lived up to their Pride, Passion, Community tagline by hosting the Carolina Fury of the NCEWHA (North Carolina Electric Wheelchair Hockey Association) in a battle between Hurricanes staff and an amazing team of power wheelchair hockey players. This isn’t the first time these teams have faced each other. Canes staff defeated the Fury last year after losing for four consecutive years, but the NCEWHA shut them down 10-2 in 2012.
P.J. Avetta (Manager of Sales and Client Services)
Jesse Boulerice (Former Canes forward)
Jon Chase (Director of Community Relations & Promotions)
Lindsay Hall (Promotions and Fan Development)
Gabby Pinto (Community Relations Coordinator)
Don Sill (Senior Producer)
Mike Sundheim (Director of Media Relations)
Doug Warf (VP of Marketing / Executive Director of Kids ‘N Community Foundation)
Shane Willis (Youth and Amateur Hockey Coordinator & Former Canes Forward)
Fury forward, George Slivey, lit the lamp an astonishing seven times. Mike Sundheim (who scored both goals for the Canes) had to stop play to get George’s autograph that brought cheers from the crowd.
NCEWHA Founder and President, Jonathan Greeson, guarded the crease and only allowed two goal in the 60 minute contest. Noah Nickodemus scored his first goal of the season in the few remaining minutes. Moo, Noah, Moo! (inside chirp)
Perhaps the most memorable moment, however, was the retiring of Cameron Williams’ jersey. His family was in attendance to honor this special athlete that passed away on October. We all miss him very much and no doubt the team honored Cameron with today’s big win.
I would like to personally thank the Carolina Hurricanes for their continued support of the Fury and our community. I am so proud to be a Canes fan. We have one heck of a classy NHL organization Caniacs. Show your support and get those season tickets now (if you haven’t already) and please support the Carolina Fury and NCEWHA by following them on Facebook.
