Friday Top Five: Cam Ward Saves of 2011-12 Season

We’re going to begin a new segment every Friday for the next few weeks taking a look at some of the spectacular highlights from the 2011-2012 season. At the end of the day, the season was not a success due to the Hurricanes not making the playoffs, but there were several highlights during the year that made Caniacs get on their feet and cheer. Today, we’re going to take a look at Cam Ward’s top saves of the 2011-2012 season.

From November 14th against the Philadelphia Flyers:

From November 20th against the Toronto Maple Leafs:

From December 15th against the Vancouver Canucks:

…and from the same game…even more of a beauty:

From April 5th against the Montreal Canadiens:

The save Ward made on Ballard was a thing of beauty.  I remember that play, seeing Ballard set up beside the net and Raymond making the pass to him – it was a goal and I could see it a mile away.  Somehow Cam made the save and the Canes held on for the win.  Maybe the highlight of the year with everything that went into it – forgotten is the great play Raymond made to find Ballard open only to have it upstaged by Ward.

In a year where things never seemed to go right, this is the highlight I have in my head when looking back on this past season.  Great list, by the way!  I almost forgot about Ward’s save on Desharais.

The 4-3 save vs. Vancouver was #1 in my book. The Canes out outplayed Vancouver the whole game and were about to give everything away in the 3rd period until Cam saved the day.  It was a great pass from Raymond but how in the world did the Canes let Ballard get that wide open?
