As you know, here at Cardiac Cane we always send birthday wishes to our Hurricanes and Checkers players. But today I would like to pay homage to a former Hurricane, a man who has had an outstanding regular season and is lighting up the playoffs. That’s right Caniacs. I am talking about Ray “the Wizard” Whitney. Ray was born this day in 1972 in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta and frankly I don’t think the world has ever been the same.

Whitney, drafted in 1991, was the second player picked by the San Jose Sharks in the twenty-third round making him one of the original members of the team. The 5’10” 180lb forward has done his time in clubs around the league including stints with the Oilers, Blue Jackets and the team where he started to get noticed, the Florida Panthers.
