It breaks my heart to say that we are down to the last six games of the regular season. Our Carolina Hurricanes (30-31-15) are on the tail-end of a three-game road trip and face the Toronto Maple Leafs (33-34-9) tonight in the ACC . Both teams are facing certain elimination from the playoff race as they each have 75 points with the Leafs in 13th and the Canes in 12th. That’s no reason to assume neither team will put up a fight to the finish.

The teams last met on Dec. 29 with the Canes coming out on top in overtime 4-3. The Canes are having a tough time on the road falling 5-1 to the Columbus Blue Jackets followed by a heartbreaking loss 5-4 to the Detroit Red Wings. The Hurricanes were not able to get a win on a homecoming for winger Chad LaRose in Detroit so let’s hope they will celebrate his 30th birthday tonight with a win in Toronto.
