Canes finally defeat the Philadelphia Flyers after losing two straight contests to the fellow Eastern Conference team. It was a team effort for a full 60 minutes. Alexei Ponikarovsky had two power play goals, his 4th and 5th this season. The winger also claimed a helper in Monday night’s contest. Chad LaRose also had a three point night with a goal and two assists. It doesn’t stop there Caniacs, Jussi Jokinen had two assists. Ruutu, Kaberle, and Harrison each claimed a point on goal making plays. I must say, the most beautiful goal of the night came from Jeff Skinner. His spin-a-rama goal had hockey fans saying, “Crosby who?”
James van Riemsdyk and Matt Read scored for the Flyers, but Canes ended 60 minutes 4-2. It was a physical game with plenty of angst. Justin Faulk was a dominate force alongside Jay Harrison. The young defenseman took a high stick and a few punches, but remained poised during the game. It was an impressive showing for the 19 year old.
As Thanksgiving nears, Canes and their fans are very thankful for the recent change in performance. Practice for Carolina has been cancelled for tomorrow as they take a well-deserved day off. Canes face the Habs Wednesday in Raleigh. Happy Tofurky Day hockey fans!
