Hurricanes Battle Penguins: Canes Need Full 60

Small and Stinky. (Photo via Warner Brothers/Looney Tunes)

It is a new day Caniacs! Our boys in red, white, and black return to their home barn to play….the Columbus Blue Jackets to finally get a win! Woo!

Unfortunately, that is wishful thinking. Instead of facing the Western Conference bottom-feeder, Canes face-off with top dog Pittsburgh Penguins. I feel like Pepe Le Pew against that red monster dude in Looney Tunes….small and stinky.

Pens have earned 23 points in 16 games (without Sidney Crosby) while Canes have fought to put up 13 points in 16 contests. Pittsburgh beat another fierce team, Dallas Stars, Friday night as Carolina allowed 4 goals in the final period to fall to the New York Rangers. Small and stinky.

Canes maintained a tied 1-1 contest into the final round of yesterday’s game. Alexei Ponikarovsky scored the solo goal, his third of the season, from Jamie McBain and Zach Boychuk. There were some definite good things happening…until the 40-minute mark at least. If the fire alarms get pulled at the start of the third period tonight at RBC…it was not me.
