Is anyone else suffering from déjà vu? Star Canes’ prospects are fighting for a ounce of good ice time. Canes are 5-7-3, including a three game losing streak. Lines change with the direction of the wind. Fans are getting feisty. Sound familiar?
Many discussions have taken place recently regarding Hurricanes head coach, Paul Maurice. Here are a couple snippets I found interesting:
No wonder Eric Staal can’t break out of his well-documented slump—he doesn’t even know who he’s going to be playing with each day. Maurice’s endless scrambling of the depth chart is hurting the team far more than finding any ultimate top-line trio will.
Maurice’s ignorance towards the franchise’s promising prospects has also been a subject of concern.
Every fall, the same trends continue, be it Zach Boychuk of ’09-10, Jerome Samson and Drayson Bowman of ’10-11 or Zac Dalpe of this season; even the most talented up-and-comers find it impossible to earn any ice time, and the subsequent experience, under the upbringing of the Maurice regime.
-From Bleacher Report
“We could go back to the way we were when we were winning hockey games,” Maurice said. “Before (Jokinen’s) injury we were playing well. So that would be my first inclination. My second is more drastic but I think I will hold on to that one.”
“I didn’t see enough offense out of that line and I saw a whole lot of bad defense,” Maurice said. “It was the same thing at the start of the year. You’d like to do it to get it going, but I don’t think it works.”
-From Canes Now
He doesn’t think it works?! First inclination is go back to the lines that were winning?! Oh Lord.
Well Caniacs, what do you think?
