The Charlotte Checkers get their skates wet tonight in their first preseason game against the Lake Erie Monsters. The teams also compete Saturday at the Extreme Ice Center near Charlotte, NC. I would love to sum up how these teams performed against each other previously, but I would have to make those stats up as the Monsters and Checkers have yet to share a
puck drop.

The Charlotte AHL team had a surge in their lineup as twelve players were released from the Hurricanes training camp yesterday. There were no big surprises. Top performers Ryan Murphy, Zac Dalpe, and Riley Nash remain in Raleigh. For a nice look at the Checkers roster, go to Chasing Checkers. Please visit the official site for training camp information.

The Cleveland based AHL team fell in the first round of Calder Cup playoffs last season. Meanwhile, Charlotte held on to their Cup hopes until the Eastern Conference Finals. Although the weekend activities are purely preseason, the Checkers’ talent is deep and will no doubt send the Monsters scurrying back under their beds.
