Canes Preseason: Storm Shifts West

Nicolas Blanchard, Mike McKenzie, Cedric McNicoll, Jared Staal, Justin Shugg, Michal Jordan, and Rasmus Rissanen join previously Checkers-assigned Brett Bellemore, Kyle Lawson, Chris Murray, Matt Pistilli, Justin Soryal, and John Muse in Charlotte after Jim Rutherford made more roster decisions. However, the remaining 36 Hurricanes’ players are also Charlotte bound today. Carolina will play the Winnipeg Jets in the Time Warner Cable Arena in Uptown at 5:00pm.

Canes have performed at a mediocre level thus far, losing to Buffalo and Nashville in their earlier preseason contests. Although, some good things have come to light, players like Justin Faulk and Ryan Murphy have been able to turn some heads on the ice.

Winnipeg also fell to the Predators in a 3-4 loss Saturday night. Troy Bodie, formally of the Canes, was served a double minor for roughing after trying to come to the defense of a teammate. Two goals were scored while Bodie sat captive in the sin bin. No doubt a rough game for the recent North Carolina resident.

The third preseason game against Winnipeg is going to give folks a chance to see stars like Cam Ward, Eric Staal, and Jeff Skinner play on their home ice. I do believe we will claim a victory tonight, but regardless of the outcome, the event will be a treat for many caniacs.
