Friday’s preseason game against the Nashville Predators was like seeing Indiana Jones for the tenth time. It is still enjoyable but predictably dull. Alexei Ponikarovsky scored in the first 31 seconds of the game and again 17 seconds into the third. Perhaps it is the only time a man is commended for his quick draw. Although, Canes ended up falling to Nashville 3-2.
Cam Ward played for 40 minutes before Justin Peters took over the crease. I was disappointed Pekka Rinne didn’t make an appearance at the other end. Instead Smith and. Lindback were the netminders for the first Canes home game. Legwand scored in the second while Hillen and Mueller got one past Peters in the third for the Predators.
All and all it was a fluff game. Although, it was nice to see Nash, Faulk, Sutter, Boychuk, Drayson and Ryan Murphy in for Carolina. Canes’ stars Staal, Skinner, Gleason, and the Finns played a good amount of ice time. Despite the lackadaisical contest, Brent left with a few stitches and Ruutu went out with a lower body injury.
