Canes Flavor of the Month: September Appetizers

Skinner to be Fan Fest special guest? (Photo Credit: Renee Kalicicki)

The humidity is departing and the Hurricanes are blowing into town. Caniacs are welcoming players and prospects with open arms. Ending the season one game short is behind us and a fresh season awaits us. October 7th against the Bolts kicks off the regular season, but we can enjoy the September appetizer in the meantime.

September 19th kicks things off with Buffalo, but the first preseason home game will be with Nashville on Friday, September 23rd. Although, September 25th will be the  memorable contest as the Canes play Winnipeg in Charlotte. The Time Warner Cable Arena is home to our AHL team, the Charlotte Checkers. The Checkers provided Carolinians with playoff hockey last season. They made it to the Eastern Conference Finals in an exciting race to the Calder Cup. Opening night for the Checkers will be against Peoria on October 15th.

Fan Fest celebrations will take place the day before the Canes’ Charlotte game on September 24th at the EpiCentre Plaza. Jeff Skinner is rumored to be the star guest, so I will be hiding in the bushes grinning like a little school girl.

After we beat the Jets, we’ll play them again in Winnipeg followed by a stint with the Columbus Blue Jackets at the RBC Center. Pre-games wrap up against the Predators in Nashville on October 1st.

All and all, not a shabby preseason line up. Cam Ward will face a worthy competitor in Pekka Rinne. Canes and Sabres have a deep seeded rivalry that will prove entertaining, and the Jets will provide two fun victories for Carolina. So unite Caniacs! Let’s Go Canes!
