Around the NHL in 30 Days: Colorado & Columbus

Ruu! (Photo Credit Chris Seward)

Out of respect for the tragedy that occurred on Wednesday, I decided not to post Around the NHL in 30 Days for a couple days. We are now on Day 9, so we will catch up with the Avalanche and Blue Jackets today. Stephen Crociata is the lead writer over at Mile High Sticking and here is a tease from his preview.

The Avs put together three consistent lines. Here are the Avalanche forwards: Matt Duchene, Milan Hejduk, David Jones, Gabriel Landeskog, Paul Stastny, Peter Mueller, Chuck Kobasew, Ryan O’Reilly, Joakim Lindstrom, TJ Galiardi, Jay McClement, Daniel Winnik, Brandon Yip, Kevin Porter, and Cody McCleod. There are 15 forwards and that does not include some of the young players like Brad Malone and Joey Hishon who may make the team.

Catch the preview in its entirety here. Now for Columbus…

I am excited to introduce Union Blue for two reasons 1) I’m a proud Ohio native. 2) My Rink Side Rants co-host and pal Mary O’Malley runs the show over at Fire That Cannon. Carolina and Columbus will compete in Nationwide Arena on March 23rd. Mary and I have the rare pleasure of watching that game together. That’s right, my beautiful red Skinner shirt will beam next to Mary’s dull Meth blue apparel. We have a hefty wager on this game as well. My friend will have to take on my vegan diet for a month when the Canes win. In the slight chance we play a less than glamorous game, I will have to give up coffee for a month (gulp). High stakes for both of us, no doubt. You can catch Fire That Cannon’s Blue Jackets preview here, but enjoy a tidbit below.

The million-dollar question: will the Blue Jackets return to their playoff form of 2009-10, or continue to be on the outside looking into the post-season as they were last year? The addition of Jeff Carter alone gives many fans, including this guy, reason to be very hopeful. That acquisition represents one giant step in the right direction, at the very least; a player who should take pressure away from and elevate the game of Rick Nash, as well as the rest of the guys on the ice.
