Calgary Flames are next up in FanSided’s Around the NHL in 30 Days. You may remember the only encounter the Canes had with this Western Conference team last year. The game was played on 1-11-11 and we won in an exciting overtime shootout 5-6. Jussi Jokinen was in Calgary’s business like a dog nose in a stranger’s crotch claiming 2 goals and a helper. Not to discredit the athletic performance of Jokinen, but Jeff Skinner and Cam Ward pulled the trigger that took down the Flames.
I swear we will get to Calgary preview, but we must pause for a replay (I mean, Skinny always comes first on Cardiac Cane…duh.)
Dang, do I miss our boys. Just think of all the new exciting moments that are to come! Ok, ok, back to business…Ryan Agnew is the lead writer over at Flame for Thought and he provided an insightful look into the 2011-12 Calgary Flames…
If you don’t follow the Calgary Flames that closely, you’d probably be hard-pressed to recognize the differences between last year’s team and the team heading into 2011-12. Not to say freshly announced GM Jay Feaster hasn’t done anything, in fact he played an absolute perfect hand in a very tight salary cap situation. He shipped away guys like Ales Kotalik, Robyn Regehr and Daymond Langkow, all who had large contracts they weren’t performing up to. He also locked up Curtis Glencross and Alex Tanguay to long-term deals and brought in a mix of youth and veteran presence on the blueline.

Set your alarm clock caniacs, because tomorrow is the Carolina Hurricanes preview! Staff writers, Sally and Dan, along with myself will weigh in on the Canes 2011-12 season. Will we all agree? Will we disagree? Will someone say Skinner is going to have a rough year and I’ll have to bring down the thunder known as my right hook?! Um, who knows….stay tuned.
