We here rednecks in Carolina don’t care noth’in about no hockey. We’s NASCAR country here, y’all.
Hurricanes’ rivals love to taunt Caniacs with southern stereotypes. They tease about sending the Canes back to Hartford where they will be truly respected by real hockey fanatics.
However, the Carolina Hurricanes have a faithful group of supporters. Sports Business Journal posted statistics today proving my point. The Canes had an 8.1% increase in attendance over the previous year, which is the second highest increase behind Tampa Bay.
Buffalo Sabres fans who love to pollute our home games saw a .4% drop in their turnstiles. Despite the Bruins success this past season, they barely saw an increase at 1%. The Caps, Canucks, Rangers, and Maple Leafs held steady.
Hockey is as popular in the south as a pig pick’in on a hot Sunday afternoon. So snag a sweet tea my friends, and let’s get ready to rumble. I will see you at the RBC Center (and Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte) in October! Let’s Go Canes! Let’s Go Checkers!
