Early this afternoon the Florida Jr Blades tweeted it was Jimmy Williams’ birthday. Instantly I felt a pang of guilt. I religiously write birthday posts for the Hurricanes and Checkers players, but I had decided early on to restrict Icing on the Cake posts to Carolina or I could be crafting birthday posts every day.
However, Jimmy does his part to promote southern hockey and he aspires to be in sports broadcasting. Seriously, how can I deny this good lad a famous Cardiac Cane birthday post? So, my apologies to Mr. Williams for taking hours to come to this conclusion. It my pleasure to present Birthday Boy James Williams…
On this 31st day of July, the Metropolitan Hockey League forward turned 20 years old. Williams returns to Estero, FL for his second year with the Junior Blades in a few weeks. He claimed 6 goals and 11 helpers in 32 contests during the 2010-11 season. The Junior Blades share Germain Arena with Canes’ ECHL affiliate, Florida Everblades. Prior to the Blades, Jimmy performed for the Space Coast Hurricanes. Random fact…he is a worthy competitor on Words with Friends.
Now for the (fictitious) gifts:
- I decided to bestow this Long Island native with a private Jet to fly him to as many New York Islanders or Yankees games he can attend. Of course, he gets his favorite seat in the house each and every time.
- A license plate reading, “TINYRHINO.”
- The witty name plate needs a home, so how about a some new wheels? Go Jeep or whatever shopping Jimmy. Send me the bill.
Happy birthday Jimmy! Here’s to a safe and successful upcoming season!
I’ll be heading to Florida in November to support our Canes cousins to the south. You can show your support of Jimmy, the Jr Blades, and Everblades by following them on Twitter and Facebook. Or heck, bag your bags and take a roadie with me in the fall!
