This week the Carolina Hurricanes are holding Select a Seat events for full season ticket holders in the RBC Center. This event gives season ticket holders the ability to go in and pick their seats or grab a new seat if they wish to upgrade. I like to imagine the event looking like this commercial for the All Star Game staring our
Razzie Academy Award winning forwards Eric Staal and Chad LaRose.
Unfortunately my Season Mortgage Holder status has taken precedence over full season tickets so I will get the seats they give me in my mini-pack knowing they will honor my preferences that I specify. (You hear that ticket office?) What does this all mean? It means the club is starting up activities for fans and we are slowly inching towards hockey season! Next thing you know it will be October 7th and the Tampa Bay Lightning will be in town. Rumor has it they have a couple of guys named Marty and Steven that are supposed to be pretty decent so that ought to be exciting.
Are you convinced it’s almost hockey season yet? Me neither. How about the 4th Annual Canes Summer Fun Fest on Friday the 22nd at the RBC Center? 99.9 The Fan sponsors the event and there will be music, inflatables and some sort of food consuming contest. I am not sure if John Forslund, Coach Rod Brind’Amour and Chad LaRose will be speaking before or after the gastronomic events. Maybe they will give their talks while going at it on the inflatables American Gladiator style. (They really ought to hire me to promote this thing). Events start at 5:30 and a State of the Hurricanes address will be given. The temperature is supposed to rise to 102 on Friday so the State of the Hurricanes should be “sweaty.” I sure hope Stormy has some sort of cooling system in his getup.
If you stick around for the evening they will be replaying Game 7 of the 2006 Eastern Conference Finals at 9pm. Sit next next to your Caniac compadres, complain about the weather, cheer the Canes and boo the Buffalo Sabres in a group setting!
Inflatables are not really my thing and recreational eating is generally done in the privacy of my home so I will be skipping the event. But it sounds like fun if you have any junior Caniacs in training or just want to meet and mingle with other hockey folks desperate for some summer puck play. Maybe you will catch a glimpse of Rosey in those plaid shorts he and Eric Staal are so fond of. Photos are appreciated and encouraged. I will be rocking like a Hurricane on my couch in the comfort of my air conditioning. But I will be bitterly disappointed if I find out that Tuomo Ruutu shows up as special guest entertainment.
