Myles Robinson is the editor for FanSided’s Editor in Leaf blog. He watched Canes new forward, Tim Brent, play in 79 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season. He gives us his take on Brent, and I like it. Be sure to follow Myles on Twitter for all your Leafs and NHL news.
First thought when it comes to Tim Brent is actually a game against your Canes, where he blocked three shots on a 5-on-3, and then managed to clear the puck to finish the kill. The guy never quits on a play, you know he’s going to give everything on every shift, because he’s one of those guys that was never told all along that he was the best player on his team. He scrapped and hustled his way into the NHL, and I’m glad to see him succeeding. His hustle is the most impressive thing about him on the ice – he always plays to the whistle, never lounges around on a backcheck.
As far as losing him from the Leafs’ roster goes, I’m honestly a bit shocked Burke didn’t bring him back – given the effort he showed all season long. He’s obviously a bit of a fan favorite in TO, but there’s only room for so many 4th line guys on a roster. If you haven’t seen it already, here is Brent’s kill against the Canes. I don’t like Skinner being denied, so I had to remind myself he is a Hurricane now.
