Caniacs have some new athletes to support come October. Tim Brent, Brian Boucher, Alexei Ponikarovsky, and Anthony Stewart. So do we know exactly what we are getting? Sure we can analyze the statistics and past news articles. It is definitely a good start, however, I like to get the skinny from their previous team’s insiders.
I interviewed writers for each player’s former team to get a personal look at our new Canes men. Eugene Markman from Broad Street Buzz is up first with his take on netminder Brian Boucher. Be sure to give this Flyers writer a follow on Twitter @BroadStreetBuzz
So, Canes hopefully got themselves a reliable back-up goalie to take some games off Cam Ward’s shoulders. Do you think we will find that relief in Brian Boucher?
Personally, I love Boosh b/c he’s got such a history with the team. So I’m a bit biased in favor of him. Yes, he’s a pretty solid backup. Once in a while he’ll have a bad game, but most of the time he’s going to give the team a good chance to win.
How do you feel about losing Boucher to the Hurricanes?
Since we got Bryzgalov and Bobrovsky, I’m not too sad.
You watched the previous Flyers goalie, what stands out about his performance?
What stands out is that he’s really calm, all the time. He never flips out. He’s got a wicked glove hand.
Any other fun facts we should know? Is he a locker room prankster? Hot temper? Bad breath?
We have a segment on the home broadcasts called Coatesy’s Corner, where our sideline guy does all kinds of features. Him and Boosh had a long running series of pranks. One time they had a bet where if Coates could score on a breakaway in 5 chances, he’d get something. He’s an old guy so he’s got no chance. But for his last shot he rigged his stick by attaching a string to it, and the other end to the puck. He faked losing the puck, Boosh slid after it, and it came back to him and he put it in the empty net. So they had another bet a while later, and Boosh rigged the net to have some plexiglass on it so the puck wouldn’t go in.
Nice! I like this tendy already. Thanks again to Eugene for his insider’s look at our newest Hurricane.
Let’s Go Canes!
