Hey, hey whadda say…it’s Brett Sutter’s birthday! Brett was born in Calgary, AB to Darryl and Wanda Sutter in 1987. He is the middle child between an older sister and younger brother.
Sutter joined the Canes family in November of 2010 with a trade from the Calgary Flames in exchange for Anton Babchuk and Tom Kostopoulos. He was originally drafted by the Flames in 2005 in the NHL Entry Draft. Speaking of family, Brett obviously comes from a famous hockey clan. He is the eighth Sutter to join the NHL. Of course, his pops was the Flames former GM and cousin, Brandon, skates for the Hurricanes.
Alas, Brett is more than a cute face that belongs to a famous family. He was a playoff beauty in the Calder Cup race collecting 4 goals and 10 assists. His action during the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins series was thrilling. The come-from-behind game six win was a memorable night for the young Sutter. Down 3-0 in the final twenty, the center assisted the goals that started the comeback and sealed the victory. Oh, he also managed a goal of his own between Chris Terry and Zac Dalpe.
Brett also had the OT game-winner in game three which I am certain I celebrated more than he did that night. He led his team with five points in that series.
As I did with Skinner’s birthday, I conjured up a few fictitious gifts for the birthday boy…
- A birthday party in his mouth…meaning a delicious home cooked Italian dinner. My great-grandma’s meat sauce, ravioli, and meatballs will rock his taste buds. Umm, perhaps the only meal I miss since going vegan. I may watch him eat it.
- Great Pyrenees dog from an animal rescue group. It would be a girl and her name would be Holtby.
- Unlimited, free access to Five Guys anywhere, anytime. Oh, and delivered by the Cowboys cheerleaders.
Have a blissful, blessed year Mr. Sutter!
