It should come to no surprise that I am excited for Jeff Skinner’s birthday on May 16th. If you read Cardiac Cane regularly then you know I am a huge fan of the young forward. Ok, ok, fanatical is a more accurate description. The guy is a blast to watch on the ice. His moves are fresh, he’s ridiculously humble, and he is literally perfecting his skill before our eyes. What more could you ask for in an athlete?

One birthday post honoring the Canadian is not nearly enough for this enthusiast. Therefore, I am breaking up the saluting into a seven day countdown. It will be a week of fascinating facts, gasp-inducing videos, and other random bits of goodness. All Skinny, all seven days! So grab some popcorn and enjoy Jeff’s birthday countdown!

We’ll start with the basics:

Height: 5’11”

Weight: 193

Shoots: Left

DOB: May 16, 1992 in Toronto, ON

Drafted: 2010 1st Round by Carolina (7th overall)

Skinny was second to captain Eric Staal in goals for the Hurricanes with 31 last season. He was the leading point scorer among rookies with 63 points. Skinner-mania continues even at the IIHF World Hockey Championship as he has already earned five points.

During off-season, Monday’s are typically Memory Lane Monday at Cardiac Cane, so in keeping with tradition here is a look at Jeff Skinner’s All-Star weekend experience in Raleigh.

Enjoy this fun article from Cam Ward and Eric Staal on Skinnerpalooza.

Read a recap of the game from the News & Observer blog, Canes Now.
