Disappointing Third Installment: Canes & Devils

The third installment of the two-week trilogy with the Devils ended last night, and it was as disappointing as Godfather III. OK, no one’s daughter was made into swiss cheese from a gangster machine gun, but it hurt never-the-less.

New Jersey earned their seventh consecutive win. The Devils are passionately fighting for a play-off spot, as they are 15-1-2 in the past 18 games. New Jersey trails the Hurricanes by ten points in the Eastern Conference standings.

Dainius Zubrus scored in the first and third, earning his 12th and 13th goals for the season. Henrik Tallinder (3) and Brian Rolston (10) each put one past Cam Ward in the first period.

Patrick Dwyer scored the Canes only goal for the evening in the third. He redirected a shot from Jamie McBain, eliminating Johan Hedberg’s chance for back-to-back shutouts.

Despite the 4-1 loss, the 17,000-plus Hurricane fans were glad to have their boys home this weekend. Canes host the New York Rangers on Tuesday. The Rangers are in 7th place with two points ahead of Carolina in the playoff standings.

Speaking of trilogies, here are some famous series and their hockey counterparts for kicks and giggles…

Back to the Future…Back to a Fracture

Lord of the Rings…Lord of the Wings

Star Wars…Staal Wars

The Godfather…The Goaltender

Look Who’s Talking…Look Who’s Tripping

The Matrix…The Hat Trix (ok, that was a stretch)
