Carolina Hurricanes…27-22-8, New Jersey Devils…22-30-4
An intense five-game road trip will wrap up in Newark this evening. Canes face the Devils three times during the month of February. New Jersey captured the win in overtime in their last meeting on February 8th. This trilogy ends this Saturday at the RBC Center.
The Devils beat the Sharks 2-1 last Friday, their fourth consecutive win. On the other hand, the Canes have lost in Newark four times in a row.
This evening’s opponent trails the Hurricanes by 14 points in the Eastern Conference standing. The gap is a bit surprising considering the Devils have gone 12-1-2 in their last 15 games.
“There’s good teams ahead of us and there’s good teams behind us,” GM Jim Rutherford acknowledged. “You can’t take your foot off the pedal.”
Martin Brodeur remains on the injured roster with a knee sprain while Jussi Jokinen rejoins his Canes after a 6 game absence.
Rumors have been swirling today about an Ian White trade. The Defenseman has exhibited a steady, yet short, career with the Hurricanes. White came to The City of Oaks after a trade by the Calgary Flames in mid-November. If traded, it would mark the third time in the past year.
