AUTHOR: | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: None Yet

It’s been kind of quite around Raleigh since the Olympics have began, but the Olympics have been awesome so far. All of the Hurricanes have advanced to the gold metal round. Eric Staal has been the most notable scoring 1 goal and 5 assists, while Joni Pitkanen has a goal and and assist followed by Tuomo Ruutu’s goal. AUTHOR: | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: None Yet

Matt Cullen Moved To Ottawa

AUTHOR: | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Yesterday afternoon shortly before the Olympic freeze the Hurricanes moved one of the main Stanley Cup pieces in Matt Cullen.  Cullen, who will be an un-restriced free agent, was moved for defenseman Alexander Picard and a 2010 2nd round pick.  Cullen has 12 goals and 28 assist this season, but the Senators are more interested in his playoff experience.  Cullen has a total of 8 goals and 28 points in the playoffs in his career with the bulk coming in Carolina.  Alexander Picard will add a stable puck moving defenseman to the Hurricanes roster with the possibility of resigning Cullen [...]

The Carolina Hurricanes announced yesterday that the Albany River Rats have been sold to Charlotte Checkers owner Michael Kahn.  Rutherford said the Carolina organization approached Kahn about a year ago with an offer that if he acquired an AHL franchise, the Hurricanes would be their parent club.  “When we looked at our vision of hockey in North Carolina, it wasn’t just about going to Raleigh,” said Jim Rutherford, the Hurricanes’ longtime general manager. “It was about growing the sport throughout the whole state. We really feel that this is a huge step forward for hockey in North Carolina and the [...]
