Eric Staal has been named the 15th captain in franchise history. Jim Rutherford said that Brind’Amour was given the choice of now or at the end of the season. Rutherford said with the transition already begining now was the right time for the move. When asked if there was any possibility of Brind’Amour being traded, Rutherford said Brind’Amour will finish his career as a Hurricane.

I agree that Rod's game has hit an all-time low, but he also led this franchise to a Stanley Cup. Rutherford should have waited until the end of the year. Eric Staal is a great player but has yet to prove himself as a consistent member of the NHL Elite. I would rather see Rod back in Philly then hanging up the skates after this season. My one question is "did they do this to Ron Francis his final year?" If no, then why do it to Rod. Bad form Hurricane.
