The Hurricanes return to action tonight coming off a two game road trip in which they went one and one. The Hurricanes see the Thrashers for the second time this season and should be motivated after a complete collapse the last time around. The Hurricanes went into the third period leading 4-1 and ended up losing 6-4. However, the Hurricanes seem to be playing with a lot more confidence since their last meeting in Raleigh.
The Atlanta Thrashers come into tonight slumping after a great start to the season. In my opinion it was just a matter of time with the way the team is built and the hot and cold players on the Thrashers roster such as Afinginov and Antropov. Also the Thrashers come in with the big cloud over their heads as rumors are swirling about Ilya Kovalchuk and if he will be traded in the next month. The Thrashers sit three points out of a playoff spot right now and would like nothing more than to bury the worst team in the NHL.
The Hurricanes come into tonight looking to auditon more young talent as Drayson Bowman will make his NHL debut. Bowman was drafted 72nd overall in the 2007 NHL draft. Besides Bowman the Hurricanes will go with the exact same lineup tonight as the injured remain injurred. We could possibly see Samsonov on Monday, but the rest are at least a week away. The Hurricanes need to keep working hard to stay out of the box. Taking penalties against the Red Wings is what killed them. The power play just needs to keep having a shoot first mentality. Tonight should be a good matchup in which the Hurricanes should take advantage.
