Hurricanes vs Capitals

After a valuate effort against the Flyers, where the Hurricanes trailed the Flyers 3-0 with less than ten minutes left in the third to tie it, the Hurricanes take on the best in the east, Washington.  The Hurricanes showed the fight they have needed, outside the Montreal game, to try to get back into the playoff race.  The problem is that they are so far back its almost impossible and most likely time to look forward to the future.  With that being said the Hurricanes always seem to play well against the Capitals taking them to the limit losing 4-3 in OT in their last meeting.  Basically the Hurricanes are now playing for pride and wouldn’t it be great to have a win over the Capitals.

The Capitals head into tonights game with the most points in the NHL while the Hurricanes have the least and are 10 points away from the next closest team.  The Capitals also made a trade today sending their captian Chris Clark and defensman Milan Jurcina to Columbus for Jason Chimera.  The Capitals saw Clark as expendable with the production of Semin, Fehr, Knuble, and Bradly and the Capitals wanted to make room for Karl Alznar, the player who cut Joe Corvo, to have more ice time.  When it comes to the Capitals you have to start with number 8.  Ovechkin like always is hot, he’s coming off a 3 point game against the Devils this week.  However, it never seems to be Ovechkin that kills the Hurricanes, but the other Alex.  Alex Semin single handedly brought the Capitals back from a 2-0 lead the last time these two met.  The Hurricanes will have to stop the Capitals offensense to have any chance.

On the Hurricanes side they come in with a 3-5-2 and looking for their 10 win and second road win of the season.  The Hurricanes proved they can beat high powered teams on the road as they beat Pittsburgh for their only road win of the season.  To win it will have to start with Cam Ward.  Ward gave the Hurricanes a chance last time by standing on his head.  He will likely have to do this tonight for the Hurricanes to have a chance.  Then the power play, which seems to have gotten better lately, must score because they are big factors in momentum.  Finally the Hurricanes must stay out of the box.  In a year of a disappointment this is one of the top on my list.  The Hurricanes went from the least to the most penalized team in NHL. this year.  If the Hurricanes can accomplishment they will at least have a shot tonight.
