The Hurricanes really came to play last night, while the Stars did not. The Hurricanes jumped to a quick 3-0 lead on goals by Jussi Jokinen, Tuomo Ruutu, and Eric Staal. It seemed to me that the Hurricanes were ready to play and Dallas took Carolina for granted as an easy two points. Late in the first period the Stars started to push back on a goal by Steve Ott to end the first period scoring. In the second period the only scoring came from the Stars Captian Brendon Morrow to make 3-2. Early in the third period the Hurricanes would once again grab control on a fluky goal off a Dallas player to make it 4-2 Hurricanes. The Stars would make it closer after the Hurricanes felled to put the puck in the empty net, as they were trying to get the Ruutu hat trick, as Loui Erikson put it in the net. However, Ruutu would not miss the next empty net and completed the hat trick with a 5-3 victory over the Stars
The Hurricanes played well and work hard to get the bounces against the Stars. Now they head on the road for a back to back series with the Florida Panthers in which they must sweep to get a little closer. If the Hurricanes can go on a mini run before Christmas you never know. The Hurricanes have a back to back with the Florida Panther and then play Montreal on Tuesday in which the Hurricanes need all six points. If they Hurricanes do this things could be looking up for this team.
