It feels like forever since the Hurricanes have had a game, but it could not have come at a better time. The Hurricanes have had a chance to rest some players this week, they actually only skated thirteen players on Wednesday. The Hurricanes now face a tough schedule for the next two weeks. After playing the Canucks today they head on the road to face the Washington Capitals, Ottawa Senators, Pittsburgh Penguins, and New Jersey Devils, which are all in the top seven of the Eastern Conference. The Hurricanes really need a win today before a big road trip.
The Vancouver Canucks come in with a 16-12-0 record and the 9th place team in the Western Conference. However, the Canucks have hammered both the Devils and Flyers on the road this week. The Canucks are led by their captain Roberto Luongo, but it’s more likely will see Andrew Raycroft today. The Canucks are led on offense by the Sedin twins. Henrik has led the Canucks in scoring this season with 14 goals and 18 assists for 32 points. The Canucks are running three strong lines right now and have won four out their last five. It’s going to take an all out performance for the Hurricanes to get the two points.
The Hurricanes have gotten a little healthier this week as we are likely to see Chad LaRose in the lineup and Cam Ward is on target to return on the 9th. The Hurricanes will have to play an all around game in order to beat the Canucks this afternoon. As it stands only two Hurricanes are plus’s this season, which has to improve if the Hurricanes are to have a decent rest of the year. Manny Legace will see his first action since the game against the Ducks this afternoon. With Legace playing for a back-up roll I expect him to play well today. Basically the Hurricanes have to stay out of the box and capitalize on their power play chances if they are to come out with a win today.
