Staal, Ruutu, and Pitkanen Make Canada and Finland Teams

AUTHOR: Wesley | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Finish Team announced this morning that Tuomo Ruutu and Joni Pitkanen would be on the Olympic roster for Vancouver. The surprise for me is that Jussi Jokinen did not make the Finish squad. Instead team Finland went with a player like Jarko Ruutu, Tuomo Ruutu’s brother, who is known for his grit and aggresive play. The Fins have plenty of skilled guys and wanted to go with the grit which is understandable, but you have to feel for Jokinen who has had a good season so far. Pitkanen was dissapointed that Jokinen was not on the [...]

Hurricanes Battle The Best In Washington Tonight

AUTHOR: Wesley | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

After a valuate effort against the Flyers, where the Hurricanes trailed the Flyers 3-0 with less than ten minutes left in the third to tie it, the Hurricanes take on the best in the east, Washington.  The Hurricanes showed the fight they have needed, outside the Montreal game, to try to get back into the playoff race.  The problem is that they are so far back its almost impossible and most likely time to look forward to the future.  With that being said the Hurricanes always seem to play well against the Capitals taking them to the limit losing 4-3 [...]

Welcome To Reunion Saturday

AUTHOR: Wesley | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: None Yet

It will be reunion time Saturday in Raleigh, NC. Tonight marks the first game back in Raleigh for Laviolette since being fired last December. However, if that is not enough Michael Leighton, who Philadelphia acquired off re-entry waivers a couple weeks ago, will start tonight for the Flyers in his first game back to Carolina.
Laviolette has not gotten off to the start he would like in Philadelphia that he or the fan base would like, but has already endured quite a few injuries. The Flyers have lost their top two goalies as Ray Emery had surgery and [...]

My Hurricanes Christmas Wish List, A Little Crazy

AUTHOR: Wesley | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: None Yet

As I sit here it is 1:10 in the morning and Santa should be here soon. Being a Hurricanes fan we have a lot of things we could wish for with this team. I have broken down some reasonable and crazy Christmas wishes. I have broken down the top .
1. Let Maurice Go. Coach Mo is a good coach, but his style just does not fit the new NHL. We were hearing excuses that its because the Hurricanes were already paying two coaches, well were not anymore. Finally he is known as a [...]

Hurricanes vs. Canadians Preview

AUTHOR: Wesley | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Hurricanes take on a struggling Montreal Canadians team tonight. The Canadians are 5-4-1 in their last 10 games, which is only one game better than Carolina. The Hurricanes will be getting Nic Wallin back in the lineup tonight and Jay Harrison will be a healthy scatch. The Hurricanes are coming off a 3-1 loss to the Rangers where they got a ton of chances, but could not put the puck past Lundquist.
Tonight the Hurricanes need to continue to click on the powerplay to beat the Canadians. The Hurricanes have the number one powerplay [...]

Canes Head To Florida for Matchup With Panthers

AUTHOR: Wesley | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Hurricanes take on the Panthers tonight at 7:30 as they start a back to back series with the Panthers. The Hurricanes are coming off a well played 5-3 victory over the Dallas Stars.
One player who finally seems to be healthy and playing to his potential is Eric Staal. Staal now has 11 points in his last 10 games. The Hurricanes seem to finally have their top line of Whitney, Staal, and Ruutu clicking and if they can get production from the second lines things can turn around.
If there is a team to turn it around against [...]
