A New Legace Begins Tonight, but Will The Streak Reach 13

AUTHOR: Wesley | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Hurricanes go into the game tonight with a goalie who was signed on Monday and is starting against one of his former teams.  Legace will be thrown in the fire against one of the west’s best teams.  The question is will he be the cure to a 12 game losing streak or will it continue.
The Los Angeles Kings come in with the top scorer in the NHL with Anze Kopitar.  The top line for the Kings has been killer so far with Ryan Smyth, Anze Kopitar, and Justin Williams.  This also marks the return of Justin Williams to Raleigh [...]

The Hurricanes Look like The Aftermath of a Category 5

AUTHOR: Wesley | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Well a lot has happened since my blog, basically things going from bad to worse.  The Hurricanes have now lost twelve in a row and if that was not bad enough Cam Ward will be out at least a month after a freak injury.
Ward was scheduled to leave Columbus today to head back to Raleigh to meet with Dr. Marty Isabel to determine the true extinct of the injury.  Listening to the radio today play by play announcer John Forslund said he would be surprised if it was only a month that Cam Ward would miss.  With Cam Ward to [...]

Leafs vs. Hurricanes Recap and Blue Jackets vs. Hurricanes Preview: Life at the Bottom

AUTHOR: Wesley | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Well its official the Hurricanes are the worst team in the NHL.  Last night reminded me a lot of the Florida game.  The Hurricanes came out playing great in the first period and actually had something to show for it with only their second lead after the first period this year.  However, then the second period started, Toronto got the first goal and the air went out of the team.  Once the Leafs tied the game at two I could feel it was just a matter of time before the Leafs took the lead and the game.  That’s exactly what [...]

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Carolina Hurricanes: The Battle of the Worst

AUTHOR: Wesley | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: None Yet

Tonight matches the two worst teams in the NHL.  If that’s not bad enough the Hurricanes could possibly be without their top three forwards.  Ray Whitney and Tuomu Ruutu are going to be game time decisions while it was announced Staal will miss 2-4 weeks. The Hurricanes last win came on home ice October 9th.
Since the game on Wednesday the Hurricanes have brought up their 2008 first round pick Zack Boychuk.  The lineup will all depend on if Whitney and Ruutu play tonight.  The lines from the Florida game worked pretty well for the Hurricanes, but they were unable to [...]

Welcome To A Winless in 10 Streak

AUTHOR: Wesley | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: None Yet

Last night the Hurricanes came out looking like the Hurricanes of old out shooting the Panthers 23-5 in the first period.  Then the second period began and the penalty trouble once again began.  The Hurricanes survived the penalty trouble and were able to get out of the second period, but it felt like all the momentum they had earned was gone to.  In the third the Panthers finally put on past Ward off the shin of Stephen Reinprecht to make it 1-0.  The next goal for the Panthers would be scored on the power play on a great tip from [...]

Hurricanes vs. Panthers Preview: It’s Not Staal Good

AUTHOR: Wesley | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Tonight could really define the resiliency of the Hurricanes.  The Hurricanes last win came against Florida almost a month ago in a 7-2 romp.  However, the Hurricanes have taken a complete nose dive, going 0-6-3.
Florida is only one position above the Hurricanes, but has victories in their last two.  If the Hurricanes are going to end the Panthers modest two game winning streak it will take three things.  It has to start from the goal out; my feeling is Cam Ward will be much better tonight after probably his worst performance of the season against San Jose.  The next thing [...]

News & Notes Plus 3 Biggest Surprises in October

AUTHOR: Wesley | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: None Yet

Well today Maurice released that Staal will be a week to week decision and no surprise he was not at practice this morning.  This will end his 349 games played streak and Wednesday will be only the second game Staal has missed in his career.  The surprise to me was that Jussi Jokinen was filling in this morning for Staal on the first line.  Don’t get me wrong Jokinen has been a big time player for the Hurricanes, but he is at best a second line center.  Cole’s best attribute is speed, which is not Jokinen’s and could cause chemistry [...]

Welcome Caniac Nation and Hockey Fans, Especially At This Bad Time

AUTHOR: Wesley | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: 16 Comments

Welcome Caniac’s to my blog Cardiac Cane.  Unfortunately it comes at the worst time since the franchise moved to Carolina in 1997.   However, that is not where the bad news ends.  During another embarrassing loss the Hurricanes have lost their franchise player, Eric Staal, for the next couple of games.  So where does this leave the Hurricanes now that they are 0-6-3 in their last nine games.  Well lets start with a couple of positives.
First there is Cam Ward, granted he played terrible against San Jose Sunday, but without Ward the Hurricanes would most likely only have two points.  [...]
