The Hurricanes embark on a short two game west coast swing tonight as they take on the Dallas Stars. The Hurricanes look for their tenth point in ten days. The meeting between the Hurricanes and Stars is the first of a home and home this season as the Stars will come to Carolina December 16th. The last meeting was in Dallas as the Stars beat the Hurricanes last year 3-2.
One of the main story lines is no James Neal tonight. Neal is serving the second game of a two game suspension for a hit on Columbus’s Derek Dorsett. Neal is the leading scorer for the Stars tallying 11 goals and 11 assist for a total of 22 points. More good news, Staal is on the road trip meaning he could be about a week away. The way the Hurricanes have been playing this last week and if they can add Staal to the lineup maybe the Hurricanes can take off and not be left for dead.
Tonight we will see if Manny Legace can start to become consistent. He has now had about two weeks to get used to his defense and the speed of the NHL game again. Legace played a good game against the Lightning allowing only one goal on the powerplay. The three keys to a Hurricanes victory tonight will be the play of Legace, continued scoring on the powerplay, and playing 60 minutes. If the Hurricanes can do this we could see a winning streak.
News & Notes: Jussi Jokinen returns to where he was drafted tonight.
Hurricanes are 6 of 26 on their powerplay since going 0 of 26.
