Welcome To A Winless in 10 Streak

Last night the Hurricanes came out looking like the Hurricanes of old out shooting the Panthers 23-5 in the first period.  Then the second period began and the penalty trouble once again began.  The Hurricanes survived the penalty trouble and were able to get out of the second period, but it felt like all the momentum they had earned was gone to.  In the third the Panthers finally put on past Ward off the shin of Stephen Reinprecht to make it 1-0.  The next goal for the Panthers would be scored on the power play on a great tip from Corey Stillman.  The Panthers would cap off the scoring with an empty net goal with about a minute and a half left in the third period.

So where does this leave the Hurricanes.  First let’s look at the few positives.  The first period showed the Hurricanes do have the ability to be the team they were last year out shooting the Panthers 23-5.  Another thing is the defensemen finally started making the simple pass and were much more decisive.  However, the Hurricanes now are winless in ten straight.  The Hurricanes did not play a horrible game and the effort was there, but they continue not being able to finish.  They get to play Toronto tonight, which is the only team worse than the Hurricanes.

At this point it is do or die if the Hurricanes were to lose tonight while having to go to Columbus on Saturday night it gets beyond desperate for the Hurricanes and time to look towards next season.  Let’s hope the Hurricanes turn it around tonight
